a space to let it go
Everyone tells their HAIRDRESSER everything.
Now it’s your turn to tell us.
ANONYMOUS confessions, secrets, and stories from the chair and beyond - shared by our community, for our community. No names. no judgement. just a place to set it down.
Why this Exists
The chair has always been a confessional.
People tell their stylists things they wouldn’t tell their therapist - about their marriage, their job, their grief, their joy - somewhere between the shampoo bowl and the blow-dry. we hear it all, and we hold it well.
Confessions of a Hairdresser is ICIAIW’s space to turn that trust into something shared. Write down whatever you’ve been carrying - funny, heavy, embarrassing, healing - and send it in anonymously. we’ll read it, and so might someone else who needed to hear it.
This isn’t about gossip. its about letting g, and realising you’re not the only one.
“I cried in the chair telling my stylist about my divorce, and she just kept cutting, kept listening, and told me my hair would grow back even if nothing els did yet. Two years on, both did.”

From the Community
Confessions, as they were sent.
Real submissions, lightly moderated for safety, shared exactly how they came in.
“I changed my hair colour four times this year. Non of it was really about hair.”
— Submitted Anonymously "A client once asked me to make her hair look 'expensive.' I genuinely don't know what that means but I charged accordingly."
Stylist, 11 years in
"I once told a client her highlights looked 'effortlessly sun-kissed.' She'd fallen asleep under a hairdryer with foils in for forty extra minutes. I take full credit."
Stylist, 6 years in
"My stylist noticed the bruises before anyone else did and quietly slipped me a number for a local support service. I still have the card."

"I knew my client's husband was cheating before she did. I just kept cutting her hair and saying nothing, hoping I was wrong. I wasn't."

"I cried more in the salon chair after my breakup than I did at home. Something about someone else's hands in your hair makes it safe to fall apart a little."

“I was in my early 20’s trying to come out, experience life, escape in a way I guess to. my female boss crossed many boundaries many times. she was always tying to get in my pants.
I was signed off by my doctor due to this. it was a very difficult situation to be in. a play of power and control. i’ve made a mens on the experience now but it was something that caused so much pain and destruction. they never did apologise.'“
